What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP works by allowing human voice to travel through IP packets and through the Internet.

How does VoIP work?

VoIP works by digitalizing voice with an analog to digital converter (ADC), transmitting it and once it has arrived at its destination transforming it into analog with digital to analog converter (DAC.)

Advantages

VoIP allows you to call other VoIP users for free, all day everyday. In addition, calls to other numbers are cheaper than a normal landline service.
In addition, VoIP allows you to talk to multiple people at once, as long as they are also connected through the Internet.
If you're still not persuaded consider that you will be able to have a conversation with someone whilst sharing and exchanging images, graphs and videos.

Disadvantages

On VoIP you cannot call 1300 numbers or emergency numbers (000), so it’s a good idea to have a backup in case of emergency.
Also, you will need to have a reasonable speed Internet connection to be able to use VoIP, we recommend at least a 512K connection, otherwise you will experience such latency which is not conducive to having a conversation.
